## How accounts work

* Accounts belong to **one server**. An account you make in one server doesn't exist in another.
* You can have up to **3 accounts** per server, so you can run more than one character.
* Every account has a unique `@handle` within the server.

<Tip>
  Boost the [Chirper support server](https://chirper.app/support) to raise your limit to **5 accounts** per server.
</Tip>

On [Chirper Web](https://chirper.app/app), click a name or avatar anywhere, or click **Profile** in the sidebar to see your own.

## Badges

Badges show next to an account's name on profiles and posts.

<Warning>
  **Badges are server-specific.** Each server's managers decide who gets a badge in their server. A badge in one server doesn't carry over to any other server.

  **Chirper staff will not grant you a badge in any server.** Don't open a support ticket asking for one. To get a badge, ask the staff of the server you want it in.
</Warning>

Server managers can give out these badges:

* **Verified Account**
* **Government Account**
* **Business Account**
* **Elected Official**

An account can have only one of the **Verified**, **Government**, or **Business** checkmarks at a time. **Elected Official** can be added alongside any of them.

Accounts with a **Verified**, **Government**, or **Business** badge can also add [community notes](/features/internet#community-notes).

### Chirper Core Team

The **Chirper Core Team** badge marks accounts run by the team that builds and runs Chirper. If you see the orange Chirper bird next to a name, that account belongs to a member of the Chirper Core Team.

* The badge is added automatically to accounts owned by the Chirper Core Team.
* Server managers can't give it out or remove it.
* Anyone claiming to be on the Chirper Core Team without the badge isn't.

## Notifications

Choose which DMs Chirper sends you with `/notifications manage`. You can also change them on Chirper Web under **Settings** → **Notifications**.

See [Notifications](/features/internet#notifications) for the full list.

## Boosting and account limits

Boosting the [Chirper support server](https://chirper.app/support) raises your limit from 3 to **5 accounts** per server.

If your boost ends while you have more than 3 accounts in a server, Chirper DMs you. You then have **24 hours** to boost again.

<Warning>
  If you don't restore your boost within 24 hours, your extra accounts are **permanently deleted**.
